EDIT: I'm only asking about starting, not a journey or hand holding

How do I start getting in shape?

Embarrassment has keep me away from making this thread, but; I need a couple tips.

5'10"
200-206 lbs (fluckionates, for some reason [:troll: was gonna hit the spchk, but,,,])
Broke, so I do eat too well

I got the books, apps and internet bookmarks, but I don't know where to start.

I don't even know how to come up with a goal. I just want a flat stomach, slimmer face (two places my weight is [aside from :datazz: :guilty:]} and run a mile under 7 mins (that's what we had to do in high school).

You mentioned running, so start running again if that's what you enjoy.
Count calories. Apps are very helpful with that.

Look at all of the sticky threads. Actually, don't just look. READ them. From the beginning. Click links. Explore. Keep going back to these threads for reference. You will learn something new, or notice something that pertains to your situation, guaranteed.

All in all, good luck. Your lack of funds should not prevent you from being able to accomplish your goals as long as you put the work in. Learning how to eat on a budget will teach you how to save money. Eating a limited amount of calories will allow you to set up a budget. Cooking at home gets more for your money than eating takeout.

I'm at the same stage as you, as far as weight and limited funds. It's just about discipline, and smart usage of time/money.

Do you have a gym membership? I know you said you're broke, but it's crucial IMO. Of course you can always do home workout type shyt if funds are realllly low, but the gym atmosphere = :lawd:

And you'll have all the equipment you need to reach your goals.

Get a membership.

Look online for a lifting regime that fits your goals. Do a little browsing, one that suits you won't be hard to find.

If you're putting in work with the weights, the other part of the equation is to eat clean. When people say "eat clean" it's like telling a dude with no game to "be confident", so I'll elaborate a little.

Cut out sodas. Eat lean protein sources like chicken, tuna, tilapia, egg whites and good carb sources like brown rice, wheat bread, quinoa, oats, broccoli. There's SO much more, that's just some popular "bodybuilding" type foods.

To get a flat stomach you're going to have to lose bodyfat. To lose bodyfat, you need to eat under maintenance.

At 5'10" 205, you need to eat roughly 2,500 calories everyday just to STAY at 205. (assuming you don't do a ton of cardiovascular activities)

So to lose weight, you simply need to eat LESS than 2,500 a day. That's it. Try aiming for 2,000 calories a day and you'll see yourself getting slimmer.

Run
Eat clean
Join a boxing gym
Rinse & repeat

Basically this.

My version.

- Run
- Eat clean with lots of water. Eat a lot of salads or veggies. Water with every meal and through-out the day.
- Diet. Limit or ignore sugar, alcohol, fast food, junk food, etc. etc.
- Join a gym or build your own gym studio. For your goals you should be focusing on tons of abdominal and core exercises. I did basic "body exercises" to gain the majority of my 4-pack. Situps, crunches, bicycles, and planks. Once you get further into it, you can do squats, bars, and other exercises to build further muscle.
- Exercise schedule and routine. I would do at least 5 days a week, but if you want to be hardcore you can do 6. Definitely take 1 or 2 day off to let your body relax and rest. I did Monday - Friday with the weekends off. Don't miss days! Keep at it for a year.

Looking at hot bodies is a good motivator as well. Picture you having that flat stomach with a leaner face. Reading forum fitness thread about peoples workouts, diets, etc. is also good. Gain knowledge.

You can do it!

Learn to lift the right way. Don't concern yourself with the weight at first. Get the form down, otherwise you're likely to hurt yourself and lower your chances of sticking with it.

are you fat? if yes: Lift

if no: lift

simply put, get a gym membership and start lifting. As far as burning fat its all eating less calories than you need and it will melt off. See my guide for more in depth analysis

You have to add these to your routine immediately if your intention is to get in any kind of shape. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3BAcbxE3-c"]deadlift with human teeth by Igor Zaripov (Игорь Зарипов) - YouTube[/ame]
