Did the ash just all fall down completely unexpected like rain before they realized how close it was?

They had to hear the explosion or see it coming in the sky, right? Did it happen at night?

How do you get buried alive in a sitting position like that without at least making an attempt to get away or something....anything?

those are plaster casts

wiki said:
Giuseppe Fiorelli took charge of the excavations in 1863. During early excavations of the site, occasional voids in the ash layer had been found that contained human remains. It was Fiorelli who realized these were spaces left by the decomposed bodies and so devised the technique of injecting plaster into them to recreate the forms of Vesuvius's victims. This technique is still in use today, with a clear resin now used instead of plaster because it is more durable, and does not destroy the bones, allowing further analysis.

I just watched a doc about this on YouTube and it said they were killed by the heat. Which is how they died basically in an instant.

The heat from the gases of the pyroclastic flow. It was probaby around 300 degrees or so

I had a chance to visit Pompeii a couple years ago. shyt was amazing breh. The city was preserved because of the ashes. It's incredible how advanced The Roman Empire was at the time. Sewage systems, toilets, bath houses, phalanx symbols pointing to the whore houses, :shaq: amphitheater, great cobblestone roads, etc.
