The 80s came in and the Jheri curl became popular.

The invention of the jheri curl..made it relatively cheap to get that curl.

Then I guess the New York brehs decided to tighten up the fros/curls with the high top fades after the curl became played out.

I dont know if it ever became played out..atleast a fresh lined up fro ..that nappy freeform shyt was getting you clowned until wiz khalifa/ the weeknd hit the scene..wiz being first with the nappy fro and proud movement.

From a 90s baby perspective you was still getting clowned for having a nappy fro in school

I graduated in 2008..social wise dreadlocks were starting to rise with weezy though. I'm from South Jersey. It was either braids or a low fade..you had an afro if you were growing it out for braids.

Prince was the one who gave Morris Day his drip..or rather helped him unlocked it. He went out on tour with breh and got the perm and it was a wrap.

The fades got popular late 80s..I'm certain it started up north. @Art Barr
