I'm not gonna pretend I give a damn about women's soccer beyond the World Cup & Olympics, but I read an article in ESPN The Magazine that exposes some pretty shady shyt.

Why Hope Solo and Abby Wambach still back MagicJack owner Dan Borislow - ESPN The Magazine - espnW

(long read)

I lost a lot of respect for Hope Solo & Abby Wambach. They sold out women's soccer in the US.

WPS forum on bigsoccer is hilarious to read sometimes.
Bottom line is that the league was unsustainable. Just like WUSA right before it, because people aren't really interested in watching women athletes outside of stuff like the Olympics and World Cups.

As for Solo and Wambach, yes, they may be blinded by not seeing the bigger picture, like having respect for teammates, but they weren't the ones responsible for making this guy an owner in the first place. It's like the struggle of track stars and other world class athletes in other sports who don't get paid like it or close to it, when maintaining that level costs something and isn't easy.
