How come when the 80s hit black folks went back to perming their hair?

I dunno I had a curl myself and according to my moma it was less maintenance.

If you look at movies and pics of the 80s, white people permed their hair to make it curly and blacks did the jerry curl and everyone wound up with the same curl size/texture. Just a fad I guess.
