into movies.

I applaud him for pulling off this difficult feat. These are a few of his gems: Friday, Set It Off, Negotiator, and Law Abiding Citizen.

Was Belly that horrible for movie studios to never give Hype a second shot?

:leon: I didn't know he directed these.

And yes, Belly was that bad. It's good for the unintentional comedy, though :yeshrug:

Belly was beautifully shot from a director standpoint imo....but yea I think its cause F Gary Grey doesn't only try to make "black" movies in which these black directors end up doing....he also did The Italian Job...

Hype Williams says wikipedia got another shot for a 100 million dollar movie but left the project. It's guess that some people are good at making music videos other movies others series.

It's like wondering why hiphop producers can't produce both classic hiphop albums and rock albums like Rick Rubin.

Antoine Fuqua too. Does Spike Jonze count?

Yes, they count.

And I'll add Mark Romanek.

I think Hype Williams would be perfect for a serial drama on HBO, Showtime, or AMC.

spike jonze done a couple of hip-hop videos but i wouldn't call him a "hip-hop music director" since he predominantly doesn't do hip-hop

Iunno why you say that, Belly proved Hype is absolutely worthless in directing actors, telling a story thru dialogue and acting (not only thru visuals), writing/developing atleast a decent story/script (Belly is some of the worst shyt ever written), if I was a Hollywood producer I'd never give him a job ever again. He's been pretty damn wack with the music videos for the past 10 years also.

The main thing with Hype was the money put into his movie / video. No company wants to break him off a budget that he needs just to get a lackluster performance from the box office

why not just get someone else to write the script? i mean with his visuals and a dope script i dont see what could go wrong
