Yep, I'm going there and don't care if no one else agrees
I remember when dudes wearing earrings were in the same boat they're accusing these men in "dresses". Calling them feminine or gay, etc. I remember when I was a kid and earrings began becoming popular among the masses. Rappers had began wearing them first, but when ppl like Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, other clean cut guys came out wearing them, it became a big deal. I recall hearing older black men at the time saying, "those boys sure can sang....but why they gotta wear all them ol earrings like a bunch of women? "
Then from that it evolved to:
-well, if you wear it in ur left ear, then it's sort of okay...still feminine tho.
-you wear it in your right ear, then you're probably gay and letting other men know
-if you wore TWO earrings, you were certified fruity
I never asked for an earring then b/c my father & uncles would've looked at me like I knew dudes who were older and had to take their earring off when they went home around their fathers.
But now look at it, it's evolved to being completely acceptable in 99% of society without batting an eye. My father doesnt even think it's a big deal anymore.
Of course The smart-dumb nikka response was always, "w-w-we used to wear earrings and jewelry back in Africa, so that's why we doing it now...." Oh really? And at that same time in hot-ass Africa were we wearing Sean John jeans or Dockers? I don't think so....African men in tribes were(and still are) wearing some variation of a skirt., kilt...whatever you wanna call it, it certainly wasn't jeans or anything pant-like. We didn't get on the slave boat in pants.
And since we wanna talk so much about "demasculation of the black man", when did men spending more time in the jewelry store than women become such a manly trait? And what about men worrying about buying/wearing traditional female designer brands? Why don't we talk much about those things?
You won't catch me in one of these Jay-Z/Kanye variations of a dress, kilt whatever it's called. But I also don't judge them for wearing it, especially since it's done in a non-feminine way.
Go ahead and post ur cute little "didnt read gifs" But I'm just putting things into perspective. Lotta people seem to have forgotten very recent history.
