Depends on your school and marks. Top marks anyhere will you you a job, not necessarily at a big firm but a job nonetheless. Above median marks from a t50 should puts you in good stead. Median to above median at a t15 is bank. For all intents and purposes international law doesn't exist unless a person has high enough marks to get a job in government. Patent law is doable if one is coming from a science or math background. However If you want real information I'd advise you to seek out a law forum, like I do.
I worked at a law firm a few years ago and saw tons of new grads working as temps doing secretarial duties. Not sure if any of them had pass the Bar exam yet.
My boy graduated from wayne state this year and had a job lined up...but he was working at the firm during school too . Like most anything else you gotta make connections during school nothing's a given. But its still a good career choice long as ur smart about it.
