smh, why do these documentaries always insist on painting a picture of these girls as victims? they choose this work, it pays better than most other jobs they can get and most of them love the attention. is it a dumb decision? do they have a short shelf life? will they be doing things they aren't really comfortable with? most of them probably yes, but it's still their decision to do it. the us isn't russia or eastern europe. nobody pointed a gun to their head and forced them to suck dikk on camera. working at mcdonalds or some other shytty job is just as exploitative as doing porn, but porn pays better and provides them with lots of attention, that's why they do it.

This. Everyone knows the porn industry isn't all moonshine and unicorns or whatever, but come on. The chicks in this are dumb girls who saw an advert for a well paying modeling gig across the country with a free flight, and somehow didn't stop to think that hey, maybe something is off about this too good to be true deal. If they really want to do an exposé on the porn industry they need to get in how these girls are getting hooked on drugs and liquor and actually threatened/pushed further down the rabbit hole, but of course that's the side of porn the producers don't want you to know, which is why they'll only ever agree to letting film makers do these kind of documentaries where they can brush it off as "We're just giving them opportunities, they're taking it" and pretend it's all good.

i don't even think the get them hooked on drugs and liquor to push them down the rabbit hole. alcohol and drugs are in part part of the lifestyle and in part used in order to numb the psychological stress of sex work. on top of that, you probably have a lot of people with a predisposition entering porn, since promiscuity is often self harming behavior, which goes hand in hand with other self harming behavior such as drug abuse.
what does happen though, is that some agents send performers to shoots without explicitly telling them the details of what they are expected to do. i saw a documentary once, where the agent said he deliberately sends his performers to a horrible shoot the first time they work, because after that shoot, everything else seems easy to them.

Yes they choose it, but let's not act like 18 year Olds are the best decision makers. Plus I'm willing to bet they don't understand everything they are getting into. The fact is, the people who produce porn now how to manipulate the girls involved and the 'well she chose to do this' is one more way that it happens.

That's pretty much the same thing. Of course they don't 'force' it in the sense of the word that it's against their will, but most porn shoots got alcohol and drugs on deck to 'help' make things easier and they'll enable it as much as possible. That's how they operate, they create situations where they can always say that the girl chose to do it. She chose to do the drugs they had laying around. She chose to go on with the shoot even though it wasn't what was agreed upon. She can't deny it and that's how they control her.
The army is pretty much doing the same thing and being a soldier can actually get you killed. I don't see sob stories about 18 to 21 year olds who enlisted

My perspective might be different as an army brat and someone who currently works for the army, but I've heard it discussed. Are there documentaries about the issue, I don't know. Personally, I'd be interested in seeing one about it. I think it's an interesting issue.
ETA: but regardless about what others may or may not be doing, the ramifications of young girls in porn is a worthy issue to investigate
It was an OK documentary. I know if I had daughters I would probably take away every device with access to the Internet. The chicks in this film were all trying so hard to make it sound like they were enjoying the degrading shyt they got paid (poorly) for. None of them were convincing at all.
that is true, i just think the angle most of these porn documentaries choose to tell their story isn't accurate. their main narrative is that of porn as this evil industry which tricks woman into entering it and then manipulates them into doing things against their will. doing porn is one of the many dumb decisions teenage girls can take nowerdays. but the way the porn industry is presented reminds me of the stories of evil dealers tricking people into doing drugs. it doesn't happen like that. people choose to do porn just like they choose to do drugs. acting like choosing to enter porn will automatically lead to getting raped on sketchy shoots is like saying that smoking weed will automatically lead to a heroin addiction and death of an overdose. it might be a first step, but it's not the norm and personal accountability has to be taken into account
