Horns is one of the weirdest and wildest movies I've seen in recent memory.
Dan Radcliffe plays a man who has been accused of killing his lover. The entire town hates him and considers him the devil incarnate. And when he goes on a search to find the real killer, he starts to grow horns (like Satan). Not everyone can see the horns, but regardless, people began acting very strangely around him. They confess their most evil thoughts and ask him permission to do evil acts. It seems like a terrible curse, until he realizes it may help lead him to the truth.
Obviously, this premise is ripe for all sorts of fukkery, and the film pretty much delivers in that regard. I was surprised at some of the fukked up things people said and did around the main character once he started growing the horns. There's little restraint or censorship. They pretty much go all out and show how messed up many people are. Also as an extra bonus, beneath all of that chaos is a surprisingly touching love story and commentary about humanity.
My main complaints are the unevenness of the story and the idea of the main character growing horns is never really explained, so it really shyts on any semblence of credibility. I guess its supposed to be an allegory but if that's true it's a bit too heavy handed.
Anyway, the subject matter alone may be too wild for some people, but I really enjoyed it and recommend it.
3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
