The year 3030

From a screenplay by Shia LaBeouf, based on his own experiences, award-winning filmmaker Alma Har'el brings to life a young actor's stormy childhood and early adult years as he struggles to reconcile with his father and deal with his mental health. Fictionalizing his ascent to stardom, and subsequent crash-landing into rehab and recovery, Har'el casts Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges as Otis Lort, navigating different stages in a frenetic career. LaBeouf takes on the therapeutic challenge of playing a version of his own father, an ex-rodeo clown and a felon.

Aw shyt, this was actually really dope, definitely recommend seeing this.

I think it's pretty incredible how this film is able to maintain its focus so strongly on the relationship between Otis and his father, and never really wanders too far from those two. There were a lot of moments where the film could've taken detours exploring other aspects and relationships, which would've been to the detriment of the film in my opinion. Damn near every interaction between Otis and his father is captivating.

You know, I was also thinking during the movie that Shia wasn't really convincing as the father, that perhaps someone else could've played the role. Something about his voice in particular, he just can't seem to shake his still youthful inflection that can be somewhat distracting. However, by the end of it I realized that no one else could've really done it, and if they had casted someone else, the film would've absolutely lost something. Shia's performance is special because this is an instance where the audience gets to witness something genuinely cathartic -- a powerful expression beyond memorizing and rehearsing lines.

Really dope.:obama:

I appreciated this more because I didnt know anything about the movie. Trust me, this is the best way. But by the end credits when it all came together and "the pictures" I was:ohhh:. Then i read the reviews and that made the movie even deeper. I agree with the above poster about that accent. It wasnt Angela Bassett/ Biggie bad, but it was fake sounding. But he was the right person to do it.

Didnt like the . But for those saw was it really:sitdown: or innocent?

Solid film, replace Shia LaBeouf with another actor who's older and this might have been a great film. Didnt care for older shia. The younger shia is where the film shines.

Yeah caught this one earlier this month. Script was fantastic. The dialogue between Otis and his father was too damn heartbreaking. Film will definitely be brought back up in a couple years when people talk about Oscar snubs, much props to Shia and Alma.
