Honestly, what are the "standards" for superhero movies?

I just went on IMDB to check the "The Avengers" rating...shyt is sitting at an 8.7/10 despite having some of the cheesiest, corniest, :snoop:-inducing dialogue I've ever heard in a movie.

Now, I know it's not fair to treat a comedy like a drama-- or a romantic comedy like a thriller-- when judging movies, but I thought movies in general are supposed to be sound in some fundamental ways to be "good".

For example, if your movie has pervasively bad:

-plot-holes
-continuity
-dialogue

it's just not good or deserving of anything beyond a 7.5/10. Does this not apply to superhero movies? Because it seems like the only qualifications for a superhero movie to be "good" is to have some cool action sequences, and a moment or two where a villain gets his ass beat and a good guy says something "clever" afterwards.

It seems like you can tie a cape to a pile of shyt and get people to embrace it.

:smh: The OP is on his own. Because the Avengers is considered the best comic-book movie of all-time.

in this day and age, it's kind of hard to put a standard to anything. i find that most people are a little too easy to please and are extremists rather than realists in the sense that they either hate or love something. a film, activity, daily occurrence, food, girl, and everything else under the sun can either be summed up by using the words "awesome", "amazing", "the shyt", "the greatest" or whatever other words highlight supreme enjoyment.

actually, it's kind of disgusting because that type of enthusiasm creates a naive sensibility to nuances and other technical aspects involved in things like film creation and replaces them with ideas of success and greatness being measured by how well received something is rather than its ability to execute or achieve the ideal expression. in other words, if enough people clap for you, you're considered a genius. so the overall goal and point in most things people are trying to sell is to appeal enough to be accepted. it's a shallow concept. it's entertainment versus art...

Didn't see The Avengers, but fukk IMDB's ratings.

If your film (or television show) has two or more Black actors or has a Black main star, you're automatically deducted three points off of your rating.

This is true. Some flicks have 3/10 ratings on opening night w/ like 600 votes. too many racists on the internet.

I want to know what dialog you found so appalling in The Avengers....

There were a few lines that made me cringe, but I thought most of it landed very well
