Make your own luck.
I just went on IMDB to check the "The Avengers" rating...shyt is sitting at an 8.7/10 despite having some of the cheesiest, corniest, -inducing dialogue I've ever heard in a movie.
Now, I know it's not fair to treat a comedy like a drama-- or a romantic comedy like a thriller-- when judging movies, but I thought movies in general are supposed to be sound in some fundamental ways to be "good".
For example, if your movie has pervasively bad:
-plot-holes
-continuity
-dialogue
it's just not good or deserving of anything beyond a 7.5/10. Does this not apply to superhero movies? Because it seems like the only qualifications for a superhero movie to be "good" is to have some cool action sequences, and a moment or two where a villain gets his ass beat and a good guy says something "clever" afterwards.
It seems like you can tie a cape to a pile of shyt and get people to embrace it.
