My wife got me the Mr. Beer kit for Christmas a few years ago. It's basically a decent cheap starter kit to get your feet wet with. I was a bit skeptical at first, but the batches turned out to be pretty good :ehh:. I need to get back into it, and get a more sophisticated set up

Yep. I did a lager, a pale ale, but I can't remember the other two. This was a while back. Like I said, I was really surprised at how it turned out. The only thing I should have done was ordered a couple of more fermenters so that I could stagger the batches, and had more than one style going at the same time.

You know you can do wine too. You just need to buy a grape juice wine kit, a packet of brewing yeast, and two 5 gallon glass carboys with an airlock. You can use diluted bleach to sanitize. It is much easier to make than beer with very little steps. You need multiple carboys to rack it and remove the yeast lees (sediment).

Also you probably want sorbate if you want to stop fermentation with some sugar left, campden tablets for acid/pH, and sulfites to prevent vinegar type spoilage.

so far ive made peach, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe vinegars, and will be working on turning this summers creations into vinegars.

this past summer i made wines out of blackberries, mimosa flowers, and honey. For the brehs that dont know, mead is the name for honey wine.

the regular mead i made tastes like sprite if it were made from flowers then a bready kinda light beer finish. its interesting to say the least. The blackberry mead is extremely strong but very fruity.

anyone else pick this up over time?

@Stir Fry you thought about doing this?

@Batsute i used these kits from Brooklyn Brewery, mostly the equipment i havent yet followed the instructions on anything else because im not a fan of beer for real. i got them from crate and barrel where they are a little bit cheaper.
