Johnny Depp Is Hollywood's Most Overpaid Actor For The Second Year In A Row

Forbes' guidelines for their rankings:

To compile our rundown, we looked at the last three films each actor starred in before June 2016, save animated films, movies where the actor appeared in an insignificant role, or movies that were released on fewer than 2,000 screens. We did not examine folks unless they had starred in a new eligible movie since last year’s scoring period.

We then deducted the estimated production budget from the global box office for each film according to Box Office Mojo to come up with a limited definition of each movie’s operating income. We took the total operating income from the star’s three most recent significant films then divided by the star’s estimated pay for those films to come up with a final return on investment number.

1. Johnny Depp
Box Office Return: $2.80 for every $1 paid

2. Will Smith
Box Office Return: $5.00 for every $1 paid

3. Channing Tatum
Box Office Return: $6.00 for every $1 paid

4. Will Ferrell
Box Office Return: $6.50 for every $1 paid

5. George Clooney
Box Office Return: $6.70 for every $1 paid

6. Adam Sandler
Box Office Return: $7.60 for every $1 paid

7. Mark Wahlberg
Box Office Return: $9.20 for every $1 paid

8. Leonardo DiCaprio
Box Office Return: $9.90 for every $1 paid

9. Julia Roberts
Box Office Return: $10.80 for every $1 paid

10. Bradley Cooper
Box Office Return: $12.10 for every $1 paid

I can see why they didn't include movies where the actor wasn't the star or tiny boutique films that got limited releases. That makes perfect sense. Johnny Depp was in one scene in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and hardly anyone even knew he was in the movie beforehand so its not like he was going to be the name that made the film successful or a failure.

Not counting animated films that the actors were the primary voices in seems dumb though.
