With the HOF discussion I am posting this lil thread to discuss at what moment a fighter had his HOF legacy solidified.

Although i am a Bud stan, I dont give a ton of weight to belts. Some, yes because that signifies the competition level but just having a belt or being undisputed doesnt make a HOFer, especially not today. In the earlier days when there was one or two major belts it meant more.

When mentioning Bud HOF status everyone always brings up 2x undisputed as thats what gets him in. No. What gets him in is the dominance displayed over years.

Belts dont really get you in the Hall if so there are some strong cases for some waiting to get in like Manuel Medina. the two best points of entry are dominance or big wins over other greats.

Tito Trinidad almost had a HOF career at WW alone, it can be argued he did....he beat 3 HOFers and some other VERY good WWs....I believe the moment he truly solidified it was once he beat David Reid but if that wasnt it then certainly when he beat Vargas.

I believe RJJ was solidified in his rematch with Griffin but if you disagree, then definitely by the time he beat Reggie Johnson. RJJ defended at 175 11x before winning the HW championship and defending LHW championship once more.

I believe Loma solidified once he dominated Rigo but certainly after Linares. Defended featherweight championship 3x and super feather 8x. Amazing.

thats 3 greats, name more

Charlo not there yet, his resume not as good as Spence and he never been considered a top 5 p4p guy. won vacant title, defended 3x, lost, regained, defended again 3x against respectable opposition. yes, beating Canelo would have likely done it. a good solid run at MW is what is best for him. I think 154 is not the best for him anymore. He is older and those guys are hungry and at MW he will have a little better timing and speed. I think he stands better chance against the ancient Lara and Adama. if he beats one of them and defends, or regains 154 titles he has a strong case.

i do think he is now...but he also has time to add on a little bit to strength his case...charlo was a top 5 p4p for me at his peak

Hey if you think so cool. I think he is a lil light. Norris was a dominant force, Charlo doesn’t compare to him. Norris opposition was better and he closed out SRL and Curry. To me the last great 154 king. Charlo is in tough with Hearns, Norris, McCallum, and Wink (shame he got jobbed against Simon, Vargas, and later Taylor at MW). I do think Mell still has a lot in the tank though.

What if Benavides beats Bivol? He gets closer and I think he can fight at CW

i think Badou jack is also close to a HOF type career...if he had got the nod against degale and superman he would have a case for sure!! id say if badou unifies CW on some undisputed shot or decides to make a HW title run and wins it then you'd have to give it to him

Nah he needs a GOOD CW run. Fighters like him are further hindered by lack of popularity and he doesn’t have many fights. He needs to get that record well into the 40 fight range. Like Haye is the antithesis of Jack. Similar record but wildly more popular. Wasn’t Canelo trying do drag him down? If he beats Canelo at a catchweight that boosts his popularity and gives him a shot.

I lean more towards Charlo than Spence, they are both close to each other. I will say I believe it ends with Charlo getting in whether Spence does or not. Charlo is going to fight again. Spence we dont know. I just dont think Spence reign was long enough, solid competition but not as great as everyone claims. Charlo regained title from a guy that beat him...so that kinda held him back. had he not lost to Harrison would be better.

out of the fighters still running the race and on the fence...Shakur is in the lead and is going to be there. he gonna beat another big name be it at 135 or 140. he probably will have a good lil reign over 135 for a while.

Devin will get there eventually, even with a couple more loses. He is going to win a title at 147 and I can see him getting a few defenses.

Boots is just beginning and he is a ways behind Shakur at same stage so he needs to get busy. He is on the right track. If he cleans out 147 or knocks off some big names at 154, he will make it too. I think he will.

Norman Jr...we dont know enough about him but at 24 he could be a nice darkhorse, suppose he were to beat Boots and then clean out 147. It can happen.

Fulton....he's working. If he gets a title at 130 wouldnt mind seeing him get another shot at Inoue.

Hitchins is going to beat Kambosos which will be a HUGE feather in his cap. I just dont know if he has good odds because 140 is too tough to see him have a dominant reign.

Benevidez, not sure. He has good resume but he not getting those names he needs. I good run at 175 if Bivol leaves...will be great as will CW run.

devin and shakur are really the only ones in the race for HOF now..they are adding on

boots, benavidez, and fulton are working

norman and hitchins shouldn't be in these convos at all..esp norman..i dont see anything special in that dude at all

thats the beauty of it. you didnt see anything special in Bud when you first saw him did you?

not all HOFer's were special talents. in fact a lot of them werent. I saw Tim Bradley early and definitely thought it was nothing special about him and he wasnt as far along as Norman. Breh, you starting to look sus. you should know all it takes is for a person to be in the right place at right time (opportunity) to have a stellar career.

a lot of fighters didnt have that special look, but they kept winning until their careers were done and you look up and say "wow"

I will say Bradley had elite conditioning and work rate. but at what point did you think he would be in the Hall? and many people still dont think he belongs just off the strength of disputed win over Manny and win over JMM.

if Norman were to beat Boots, that could change the trajectory of both of their careers and its happened before, see Nunn vs Toney...although both made it to the Hall, at the time they met Toney was not even on anyone's radar like that and Nunn was damn near seen as RJJ equal.
