Are there any books on the racism of highway constructions? Its crazy the amount of damage they wrought.

My pops is from a small town in Alabama right off I-20 and tells me all the time how it was a bustling town, full of Black businesses (you can literally see what once was) and turned into one of the most dangerous cities in the state after they built I-20. The thing is, they didn't build it thru the community. They built it the next town over-- the difference between them is night and day. They got Five Guys and shyt. You can't even get Wendy's in pops home town :mjcry:

Sad story about your Pop's hometown. Biggest example of that in this region was when the Cross Bronx Expressway was constructed.

I think the lesson moving forward is to build economic and political capital. That way we have people
(representing our interests) in the rooms when these meetings are taking place, to either block the plans or amend them so that we are position to benefit.
