Big daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Krs-1, Mc Lyte etc....

nikkas will be quick to call them legends in a convo but i cant tell it by the way they get treated.....

At rock the bells they had big daddy Kane as the opening act at like 2 pm........knowing dam well aint nobody hardly there at that time. Slick rick performed right after.

What other genre of music give their "legends" the opening act treatment?

A lot of genres, it's not about their legend status it's about their attraction to pull crowds.
Rolling Stones pull crowds so it would be dumb if they were gonna open for someone, a band like The Damned or whatever (I don't know all these legendary bands that didn't move major units) would probably open for them.

Jay and Nas attract large crowds so they won't open for anyone, same for Dr. Dre, Snoop, probably Cube and on.
You've got to consider the fact that these dudes like Slick Rick are the originators, the originators are often considered legends but the ones that perfected the craft are the ones we remember and that attract the people. that's my take on it.

Also it depends on what type of show it is, if we talking about 10s of thousands a dude who has problems attracting 500 alone probably won't be the main attraction. If it's 3000 he probably will.

rollin stones is pullin crowds cause they get legend love and recogntion from their radio stations, media outlets and award shows.

that shyt constantly reminds their original fans of their music plus it exposes their music to generations that wasnt even born when they was out......

but i see what u saying

The reason nikkas like Kane cant pull a crowd of 500 is cause nikkas done left them out high and dry. No radio play, no appearances, etc. Its mad nikkas out here who have never heard a Kane song.....or slick rick........

when the last time u heard a kane joint on the radio? Slick rick, Mc Lyte?

shyt...i had to get up on them on my own.

but when u say the ones that we remember the ones who perfected the craft u taking away from the talent they bought to the table.....

yea THATS THAT SHHT I DONT LIKE

Kane & Ricky shouldve been on like at 4 and Currensy and JCole shouldve been earlier.

i usually show up early and catch all the acts but i missed both of them this time cause i got there late. kane puts on the ill performance i seen him in QB last month, hes still 1000% sharp.

i seen ricky perform 2 years ago at RTB but his was the opening set (main stage though) and he ran through Great Adventures but the first half of the set he was dull and unenergetic. i thought maybe he didnt appreciate being the opening act.

toward the end though he perked up and started actin way more live.

i would bet no other genre does that to answer your question.

hiphop does get the :snooze: treatment.

How are you going to be mad that the fans came out to support J.cole and company instead? If thats what the fans wanted the promoters have no choice but to set up the line up accordingly

not mad, just saying the new nggaz should be in the front and the O.G.s should close.

technically the fans would not want TWO stages as that is the most common complaint about rock the bells that ive heard all these years.

so the promoters do what they want. i for one dont care about two stages but i just think that kane and ricky shouldve had the same set times as Naughty and Salt/Pepa which started at 3
