The
CW has put in development an hourlong drama from
John Wells Prods. and
Warner Bros. TV loosely inspired by the life of actor/dancer
Kenny Wormald who played the lead in the recent
Footloose feature remake. Written by playwright Andrew Hinderaker, the untitled project is described as “
Entourage meets
30 Feet From Stardom”. It is a peek behind the curtain of Hollywood’s hip-hop dance scene, centering on a top flight back-up dancer who dreams of becoming a choreographer. JWP’s Wells and Andrew Stearn executive produce, with Hinderaker co-executive producing and Wormald serving as consultant.
Wormald has worked as a backup dancer for such artists as Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, The p*ssycat Dolls, and Christina Aguilera. He transitioned into acting with his starring role in
Footloose. His relationship with John Wells Prods. stems from the the company’s upcoming feature
Love and Mercy, in which Wormald appeared in opposite Paul Dano, John Cusack, Paul Giamatti and Elizabeth Banks.
Hinderaker is a Resident Playwright at Chicago Dramatists, a member of the Goodman Theatre’s Playwrights Unit, and an associate artist at the Gift Theatre in Chicago. His newest play,
Colossal, was recently awarded the Kennedy Center’s Jean Kennedy Smith Playwriting Award.
Wormald is repped by UTA, Generate and PJ Shapiro; Hinderaker is at CAA and The Shuman Co.; Wells is repped by CAA.
