All I can remember about 2005 is 50’s Massacre being played all Spring that year, Jeezy starting to gain traction during Fall 2005, and hearing that Texas run where Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Chamillonaire, and Mike Jones were dominating after Lil Flip failed.

Hip Hop was still fun back then…

Hip Hop DVDs were still entertaining as well.

2005 was the first year that I heard a DJ Drama tape with infamous Lil Jon drop. When u heard “Cannon”, u knew that the song was gonna be a exclusive

The era of low quality trash lyrics with low quality beats being accepted as rap/hip hop

We still had variety….

When 50, D-Block, and Dipset held the mixtape game up North in the cobra clutch, u still had Mike Jones on the radio bragging about his pinky ring in 2005.

Even the R&B records were getting pushed.

Even when everyone and their mama had a Lil Jon beat, u could still bump a Green Lantern mixtape.

Nikkas had fun back then and weren’t afraid to show it.

Music videos were still entertaining despite BET firing Free(who had a big Onion booty that u can sniff) for that skinny Latina Rocsi.

At least Terrance J tried to make things entertaining. He was corny but he had some coolness to him unlike AJ.

Big Tigger wasn’t afraid to be goofy even when Ghostface so called punked him

For me, i was digging alot of the underground scene because commercial rap was starting to decline.

I kinda feel the same way. Even beyond just how the sound of the music was changing so drastically (and not for the better), consuming music and being a part of the culture was changing to something unrecognizable. Music stores and vinyl spots I used to frequent for albums and singles were going out of business, all my favorite radio mix shows were getting cancelled, Rap City was wack by then, print magazines were stopping publications. Early-mid 2000s is where we really begin to see how the changes in technology altered the production and consumption of music/hip-hop.
That;s why it was beautiful to see Sean P:boss: revitalize himself with the rest of BCC on those 9TH Wonder triple-threat abums.:wow::banderas:
