So here is another data exercise---which counties have the highest and lowest marriage proportions for Black folks. There is an alternate way to calculate this using birth and census data rather than just raw census data. If you look at fertility, the proportion of kiddos born in marriage, etc. there is an equation which gives a reasonably accurate estimate for the proportion of women married of child bearing age in a population. So this is in particular the proportion of women married but the proportion of men is pretty close. These numbers may have some flex given the differences in age distributions in populations but are relatively in the ballpark.
Below is the Top 30. These were actually filtered for counties with reasonably large Black populations since you have counties with very few Blacks that seem to have a 100% or 0% marriage proportion. Of note the top areas are high net worth/education (like a lot of the DMV) and also areas with a large military presence (like Onslow, NC with Camp Lejeune or Arapahoe, CO). A few studies have shown the military seems to be the one place where Black men's likelihood of marriage is equal to that of White men, even controlling for education so this shouldn't be a huge shock.
This is followed by the 30 lowest which unsurprisingly are areas with large urban poor populations or rust belt type of rural counties
