I was thinking about discussing, not debating, the age old argument of "dualism" vs "materialism" in terms of consciousness. It's one of the few things I go back and forth on constantly.
For those who don't know and wish to study or think on it, I'll summarize:
Materialism basically means that consciousness and we as sentient being are a purely physical thing, that all of it is driven by chemical and electrical processes in the brain, and that consciousness is merely a byproduct of it.
Dualism basically states that we have a physical and metaphysical component. While we are physical beings, and our brains are driven by those aforementioned chemical/electrical processes, it merely allows us to "tap into" or understand a higher plan of existence that we refer to as consciousness.
