I stopped watching wrestling circa 1995-96 (pre Goldust and other fukkery that took over-espescially once Lex never won the title). I had a brief run again from about 2000-02. By then, Rock was a pop culture figure and Farooq was in a struggle hick group with some Cac and had an "entertain us boy" catchphrase.

One of their videos popped up in my YouTube feed and Farooq was pressing Vince about the Racism in the WWE and someone trashing their dressing room with racial slurs and "you whites been doing this for 400 years".

I found a couple more videos, but a whole Lotta questions amounted from the missing periods.

- How did they form?

- How/When did Rock Join?

- How was Kama(?) transitioned from a freedom fighter to a pimp?

- We're they popular then (I've seen the gig of the young Cac holding up black power) overall

- How did they breakup

- Was Owen Harts involvement on something political or was he just there fitting in

They formed in USWA (WWF’s development territory at the time) in 1996 by two white guys named PG-13 then later carried over to the WWF where they later joined Faarooqs version.

It was pretty much just a gimmick change for Faarooq who at the time had a Roman Gladiator gimmick. He then recruited D Lo Brown, Clarence Mason and Crush.

The Rock joined in late 1997 after Ahmed Johnson was kicked out. He had just recovered from an injury and Jim Ross came up with the idea for his super boring character to turn heel and join NoD.

Kama’s transition to The Godfather happened gradually. He started the gimmick while in the Nation then by the time the Nation disbanded he was a full blown pimp.

Obviously they weren’t DX, but they were the #2 faction as reference by their near year long feud with DX. The Nation’s popularity in my opinion was carried by the Rock alone.

They broke up in multiple phases

In 1997 Faarooq kicked everyone out the group (the white people, Clarence Mason and the random bodyguards) but D Lo to make way for a blacker Nation that now included Kama and Ahmed Johnson.

Later that year, Ahmed Johnson was kicked out and replaced by Rocky Maivia (The Rock) who then adds Mark Henry.

1998, the Rock led a coup that kicked Faarooq out and he replaced him as leader. At this point the dropped “of Domination” from their name and went by the Nation, changed the theme music as well.

Owen Hart is added to the group because he literally had nothing going on so they make him co leader with the Rock.

At this point it’s clear the Rock was becoming the next breakout star, so in Fall 1998 Mark Henry and D Lo Brown turned on the Rock effectively ending the Nation.
