Get him the 80 gb version.. The hard drive space is only for storing games, and I doubt he'll need that. You need to buy a HDMI cable if you have a HDTV

GB is the size of the drives. The wires depend on your television. Ideally you want an HDMI cable if you have a modern television with an HDMI jack in the back. If not the ps3 will come with the standard wires you need to connect the ps3 to your television. 80 gigs is enough for most people and 400 gigs is reserved for people who plan on copying a lot of data to their ps3's. Buy the 400 gig if you plan on putting a lot of music, video and isntalling games to the ps3. If you dont see yourself buying your son a ton of games, buy him the 80 gig.
