i looked for a thread about this and could not find it.

so i have finally started to pay attention to my credit score and trying to figure out what i can do to fix it. i know there are some very intelligent and experienced dudes on the coli so im turning to you guys for tips and advice.

i currently monitor my credit on quizzle. my score is :flabbynsick: at 566. i have less than 1500 in debt which is about to get wiped out. i also have 5 negative marks and a public lien by the state of new york for taxes. my question is, once i pay off my debt, what can i do to increase my score up to 700 in as little time as possible.

i know i could just google it but i rather get real time advice from more like minded individuals.

nah that one is paid i forgot to mention that, they hijacked my bank account for their 600 but its paid. the only debt i have is from an old tmobile account that i owe 1300 to(long story) and a bank of america account that i owe 161 to. both debt collecting agencies offered settlements of 540 for the tmobile and 90 for the bank of america n by next week they will be paid off in full. after that my open debt will be at 0.

lol, I wouldn't pay them, just move on. Get a cc make payments on time and always more than minimum payment or get a loan for a car if you need one, as you're in Harlem I'm guessing you don't...

Do you own or rent?

i rent..i heard about the cc thing but i also heard those credit inquiries hurt and it lowers the average age of credit. mine is low to begin with.

what other things that i have to pay monthly can help fix my credit? i know cable doesnt report to the agencies but is there anything else like that?

I don't think so... honestly.
It might come up you have a gas or electric bill but nothing else unless it's in collections.

It's better to do something than nothing.
CC is your best bet besides buying a car, that I can think of...

Start to put some cash aside to buy a place or for a down payment, like 5-10k a year ideally or whatever you can.

what do you feel is a ridiculous rate?

You can probably get a card from your bank.

You can get your score as high as you want if you don't have the capital or income to back it up it doesn't mean anything at the end of the day.
It's kind of like owning a nice watch, but no one can see it, because you actually don't own a nice watch.

I think maybe you could cosign the loan, it can be based on her credit, and you're just along for the ride. By the time you're ready to buy a place most people are all set. I'm sure you'll be fine just keep putting cash aside for the down payment or buy in cash, then you won't even have to worry about credit.
