Can we ban this sword swallower?

What was the point of this statement? No need for that nonsense in a potentially interesting thread and subject.

I apologize for not being a politically correct douche bag

:stopitslime:

but on a serious note, I kinda have the same ideas/philosophy as this dude "DO" had (about human emotions/sexual instincts etc being primitive shackles on us and trying to move beyond them) minus the crazy religious sh1t.

It kinda scared me and got me wondering if I really am as insane as he was

You have no idea how easy it is to build a cult group of followers from the weak minded, the lonely, the desperate and the destitute.

Look around you. Look at people and celebrities. Look at trends and even speech patterns.

Hell, look at this message board.

And no, OP, you're not insane. It's just that some of your moral and philosophical ideologies fit outside the social.... "norm".

Now, Imagine you went and found some more people who felt like you and showed them you were brave enough to speak and/or act on those feelings and created a space for you to do so.

2/3 of people would go "OMG I feel that way too! Let me go where he is so I dont feel crazy!"

1/3 of those people would say "OMG I never thought about it that way! He's rght! Let me go where he is so I don't feel so crazy!"

After that, some reinforcement of those ideals and some mental nudging, you can pretty much convince them to do whatever you want for fear of being pushed back into "regular" society.

Congrats, you just started a "cult".

See how easy it is?

I'm trying to figure out how the hell they managed to afford that 7 million dollar mansion tho. (I know they rented it but still)

None of them really worked because only a select few were allowed to go outside, where did the money come from?

No way in hell they made all that money via graphic design, especially in 1997 when less people had PCs

:dwillhuh:

I'd also like to take a look at a synopsis of their basic belief system, does a Heavens Gate bible exist or something? (I know that crazy Dr. York guy had his own bible)

:ohhh:
