Former champion Brandon Rios (33-2, 24KOs) is close to securing another world title shot.
According to promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, the winner of Kell Brook vs. Frankie Gavin will face Rios in the fall. Hearn, who promotes both British fighters, is presently negotiating with Rios' promoter Top Rank and says a deal is very close to being reached.
Gavin (22-1, 13KOs) challenges Brook (34-0, 23KOs) for his IBF welterweight title on May 30th at the O2 Arena in London.
Rios was last in action in January, when he demolished Mike Alvarado for a third round TKO in their trilogy meeting.
"The Amir Khan fight is not going to happen anytime soon. We're in deep talks with Top Rank. The winner of this fight will fight Brandon Rios. We're about to get that tied up, this week or next," Hearn told BoxingScene.com/Be Real Boxing.
