Jay pretending to retire and and telling the world he was the best gave him the cult like following he has today.

A cult following is better than no following, BUT it's also limiting. Because that cult will then think they own that artist and act "betrayed" when that artist doesn't do what THEY think he's supposed to do, or doesn't work with who they want him to.

This is part of why most rappers can work with whomever they want... but it took until 2012 for Nas to prove to his "real fans" that he DIDN'T need Premier, Pete Rock, or AZ to make a good album. Maybe now they'll stop ridin' him about it and let him do him.

They dont even have the potential to be that successful is what Im saying:whew:

Well, a six figure income can be established with a cult fanbase as long as the artist generates a quality catalogue of very hot tracks friend. Lets not put demons like Jay z and Puff Daddy as something every rapper can just get out there and become, friend.

Jay/Puff being the standard is a fallacy, 99% of all rappers ... past, present, or future won't ever attain that level of success...regardless of what type of following they have...then there's the fact that "cult like following " is really mainly just a euphemism for "a dedicated fanbase that relatively isn't all that big" ... Realistically jay has a cult like following, its just fukking huge and outgrown the term

I dout that...there are fans of jay-z that know nothing of his early work

Most CamRon fans are fans of everything he has ever did

Budden is the perfect example of this.

Without his cult following of "internet soldiers" he wouldn't be where he is today.

Without his cult following of "internet soldiers" there wouldn't be so much hate on the Slaughterhouse album

There are plenty of Cam'ron fans that don't know or rock with his pre dipset era music like that, because his "cult like following" didn't really exist before then....and between the two, who do you think garners the bigger reaction from tracks from their first couple of albums and performs them more often live...Jay or Cam'ron?...Reasonable Doubt is WAAAAAAY a bigger part of the Jay-Z myth among his fanbase than the entirety of Cam's pre dipset discography

Everybody not trying to be Jay or Puff though.

Some dudes love to rap and perform but are interested in starting a clothing line and selling energy drinks and shyt..

I see a cat like Devin the Dude and he seems as happy and content as all them dudes. He get respect from other rappers and has a nice cult following

I rather be him than someone like Chingy who does it big and 5 years later is forgotten
