I think it may still be hanging on in the deep South but overall u got these new negros who don't eat cause their mom can't/ doesn't cook it...when I want some soul food in my house I have to cook it cause my wife is from San Diego and her mom is not a very good cook at all so she didn't cook a lot of soul food for them growing up..my wife can cook tho but just leave the soul food to me...I grew up in a house led by a woman born in 1930s Texas so u know I fuks with all that unhealthy-ness...I actually learned how to cook because I wanted to have soul food anytime I want it...I throws down too

Malcolm X coined the term. The same guy that didn’t eat pork. Soul Food is way more broader and diverse than what y’all are giving it credit for. Most of it is healthy. I think there’s even a thread on here somewhere that @IllmaticDelta did.

What does any of this mean? I just want to know what Soul Food, I was expecting a nikka to say fried chicken, okra and shyt but apparently it is state of mind or a riddle or some shyt.

Younger people like fast causual spots. Soul Food stops on avg havent adopted that business model. Usually they are real
Sit down spots or cafeteria style.

The soul food spots that have updated their business models or even introduced things like fusion cuisine are doing fine.

There are places like busy bees in ATL that should have expanded but they have not gotten with the times and are hanging on due to their history.
Just put it in plain terms..Soul Food spots SLOW AS HELL :russ:

soul food is a generic term for any/all afram based foods that can range from gulf coast to low country-sea islands cuisine

You have to go 'look' for a soul food place. It's not like there's one on every corner or some well known brand to pull up to. Most young people aren't 'foodies' like that and just pull up to the common places like Taco Bell, Mcdonalds, Wingstop, etc., or some common restaurant that everyone knows like a Fridays.

I definitely don't eat as much as I used to. I'm just trying to get healthier. I DO try and find healthier versions to make.

It’s a term Malcolm X used to describe Black American cuisine but it just caught on more. Gullah Geechee, Louisiana Creole and Cajun are all apart of Black American cuisine.

i have noticed this, it mostly because millennials are on that health food wave and nobody has tried to put a healthy alternative twist to soul food yet. at not in mainstream way. Millennial's are waiting for that gluten free organic vegan friendly naturally sweetened peach cobbler.
plenty of healthy soul food places out here, as well as vegan ones. the thing is, that's not what soul food is :heh:

but overall it's a combination of being more health conscious + exposure to more types of food. as you explore more, you realize you dont need shyt doused in salt and oil to taste good, vegetables don't need meat and fatback in them, there are better cuts of meat than ox tails or hamhocks, etc

2. I’m not paying soul food restaurant prices. Soul food restaurants in NY are downright predatory at this point with pricing. Even jamaican oxtail countin asses don’t tax like that. Spot in The Stuy charge you 3.75 for a little ass piece of cornbread the size of a ringpop
And it's for nothing you can't whip up in the crib...the black version of Panera Bread :loldenzel2:
