Have liberals given up on their fundemental moral theory (relativism)?

I see a new "bash Islam" thread here everyday, and I see more and more liberals blaming culture for some other group's problems. Isn't this incompatible with relativism?

Wasn't psuedo-black man Tim Wise pinning some of the socioeconomic distress of black people on black culture recently?

don't take KTL/HL's islam ranting as a mainstream version of western liberal thought on islam. it's a misguided fusion of the tendencies of New Atheism (dawkins, hitchens, sam harris etc.--very macho rationalists) & old prejudices

and 'moral relativism' as you use it was always a pejorative phrase, the liberal idea that underlies what it caricatures is the idea that environments and ideas shape people into different entities and that doing a direct cross examination is unsound sociologically, anthropologically and politically. You can't go to a tribe in Africa that has preteens walking around naked and be like "damn this tribe is full of vulgar kids and pedophiles"!

Tribal Africans aren't completely naked. They have social norms of fashion that each tribal member must obey lest they be ostracized or ridiculed.

Likewise, I can't just walk around the street wearing butterfly collar and a purple suede suit.

The same universal absolute is behind both situations.

it's not relativism to understand this as in line with your examples,
it's a different expression of the same absolute principle
