How you gonna ROFL with a hollow back?
We have some new management at my building. They are very aggressive in implementing 5S and lean to every aspect of our building, as they are all master black belts in six sigma. I was hesitant at first, but I'm starting to wonder how I lived in "chaos" to this point before 5S/lean. I actually just ordered a new standing conference room table for my departments conference room and standing desk for my office. I am currently designing a 5S working travel bag/briefcase so I can be mobile at all times and stop wasting time sitting at a desk and be out on the floor observing, and auditing process.
I am telling all of you, this is changing my life, there is so much waste in every aspect of your day that you are not aware of, and I have found, just in the last 3 weeks, that the quality of your work once you start to eliminate waste goes up tremendously and through standardization, micro management is completely unnecessary. I am setting myself up to spend a lot more quality time with my family and a lot less time putting out fires.
If any of you are in industries that these principals could be helpful, please check out this site and videos.

The guy is kind fukking weird to be honest, but fukk it, he has some good ideas. He tapes everything, he tapes himself going into in and out burger, just to show you how every day companies implement lean and you don't realize it.

Cool. I'm just being trained now and it is pretty much making me rethink everything I was ever taught, I was always an effective manager, but that was because of hard work, passion, pride, and follow through. Taking these new principles and applying them to my already effective attributes will make me a lot more well rounded and desirable to future employers (I have been with my company for 20 years, since I was 16, and these managers think that I'm absolutely crazy as they all seek new companies and challenges every 3-4 years as a rule). I never even thought of leaving, but with this new learning and train of thought has me rethinking my options.

i use some of the principles but i haven't been officially trained in it. alot of lean ideas are common sense really. 5s takes a little more to understand.

speaking of which, anyone know any other good places online to read up on 5s?

I'm taking a class on lean six sigma right now. Trying to get my greenbelt. It's definitely useful

Da city where the skinny nikkas die
my entire career has been based around this shyt. I've done the whole Toyota Way, TPS, kaizen, 5S, six sigma, Lean, etc.

so let me say

the fundamentals are pretty much common sense. once you go beyond that it becomes like any other corporate initiative... BULLshyt.

they took 5S too far at my job when they made a printout of where to put the markers and how to position the chairs in our meeting rooms. really breh?

but yeah 5S is really just common sense. sort out ya shyt and toss what you dont' need. put the things you use more frequently closer to you. voila! Lean is simply don't build in excess. the rest of the stuff isn't practical for most operations
