Black Mayor vs White challenger
in the 1st round...the black guy (Dupree) won but by a very slim margin. Appeal was used by (Ware) and the vote came back saying he won in the 2nd election by a slim margin. Poll watchers have come in to count the absentee ballots now which are going heavily toward Dupree.
Tempers have flared and fights and protest have broken out outside city hall. The racial divide is split right down the middle in this race. What makes this election so important is because there have been whispers about Dupree having the potential to be the 1st Black Governor of MS. I think this race is being used to take the wind out of his sails.

“Either he goes or I go,” Jones said angrily as he stormed out of the council chambers during the early afternoon.
Despite threats of quitting punctuated by a dramatic exit out the front door of City Hall, Jones stayed to continue the vote count.
His nemesis Perry agreed to remain outside the council chambers while other Ware observers took his place for the ballot inspections.
The fight erupted over crucial absentee ballots from the Train Depot, a precinct that sided heavily with DuPree on Tuesday.
It was unclear what exactly triggered the argument that has been festering since Wednesday morning when Jones objected to Ware having two observers at the absentee ballot count.
Perry, whose constant questions of the counting process have irritated Jones, said he was on the verge of telling Election Commission Chairman Joe Kinnan about the voting problems he saw at the Train Depot when Jones cut him off.
“You’ve said enough,” Jones objected.
“I didn’t say anything,” Perry responded.
