Has respawn made people more numb to video game deaths?

Something that has bugged me for years (I trace it back to Advanced Warfare) is that folks have expanded what I'd call a "camper".

now when I played old games like Socom and CSS camping meant sitting in the spawn and not moving at all. I've always played shooters in such a way to live the longest and outsmart opponents by mastering the map and learning tendencies

nowadays it seems like its "noble" to hold down the L3 button and jump/slide/dive turn up your look sensitivity and just make some of these games feel like Quake or Halo

I get hate mail almost weekly playing Black Ops 4. After I went 85-3 on Slums (3 gunships) I got called every name in the book in my inbox

Why do folks think that running and dying is fun? Are folks really this pathetic? :jbhmm:

To me, respawn has allowed unintelligent gamers a free pass to play stupid :manny: in 2004 you'd be a butter bar in Socom 2 and relegated to low quality servers while the intelligent killers had cookie and wings ranks :banderas:

@JussieSmollett I know you know what I'm saying

Actually in Socom 2 I rocked the M14 (20 bullet mags but 2 shot kills :banderas: )

I sniped sparingly with the M87ELR and the M82A1A but with the shytty draw distance back then It wasn't my strong suit

I didnt snipe heavy until Modern Warfare with the M40A1 (ACOG attachment)

IMO sniping isn't even worth it in many of these new games cause the firing lines just aren't long enough to need a scope. In BO4 I can get away with using LMG/Assault rifles with some quick pepper shots

I play shooters like I play paintball in real life. I find a site line that I know the enemy team has to traverse, My teammate then locks down another firing line that is flanking to the one I'm operating

I get filthy killstreaks every game doing this. CoD Ghosts was my highest KD duty (2.8) because so many people didn't know what to do at all with them big ass maps...but i did :mjlit:

Thats what I'm saying. Folks die and literally don't flinch. Compare death in duty vs death in goldeneye

imagine if your controller shook violently on death and you had to watch your character bleed out for 30 seconds after taking a hot one to the gut :ld:

Most people probably didn't grow up playing one life FPS games. I cut my teeth on Soldier Front back in the mid 2000s before moving to Call of Duty in 06. In Soldier Front that was your ass if you went out there trying to Rambo shyt. Standing out in the open, shooting at anything that moves, CHASING somebody to get a kill (never chase ), basically all the bad decisions was gonna get you popped. Especially with all the wallhackers :snoop:
:mjlit:
You didn't want to be stuck spectating for the next 5-10 minutes, so you valued a life :manny:
.

I also think contemporary shooters are just too fast paced. These low attention span ass kids want to be in the action all the time. Games are being tailored to that. I was hoping the new Modern Warfare was going to slow down a bit, make things slightly more weighty, but it doesn't look like that's the case :francis:

I kind of agree, it did make us numb. I remember during socom 1 and 2 days when you didnt want to die wait until the round is done to come back.

It was more tense and strategic imo

I feel u OP. That shyt is wild. I used to do that dumb shyt till my guy taught me how to run in groups, cover each other, and actually duck. Now that I think about it, that was probably my hardest hurdle as games got more sophisticated. I had to learn how to play games in a realistic manner to win
