I've been there in 2019. Got some family out there too
They love Americans over there, brehs and brethettes will feel welcome, it's a hospital tropical country. A lot of counties have American names such as Maryland County, Kentucky, Virginia and Mississippi. Those were established Liberian colonies for the enslaved and freed blacks.
The horrors
Liberia from 1989 to the early 2000's went through one of the deadliest civil wars in the history of mankind. Led by rebel leader, Charles Taylor.
Children as young as 7 yrs old was drugged and recruited to fight in the war. This was situated in the Red Light District (one of the busiest shopping district in Monrovia)
The coup attacks of the 70's also led to the Civil War. Apparently, the fight was over Firestone rubber -- resources. One of the biggest cash crops in Liberia is rubber
Here's a video of the Americo Liberians
They were the elite ruling class of Liberia. They end up doing well for themselves.
The issue with Liberia nowadays is political instability. They just had their election couple days of ago
. The problem like most African politicians is most are puppets towards the west. Most of the money is embezzled and used towards monetary gain instead of helping the common people.
The best president they had was Shadrach Tubman (my-great-great grandfather). During his presidency, the country adopted a Literacy program approach called "Each one teach one". Education is important for a nation, the more educated a nation is, the more knowledgeable they become.
Liberia has some noteworthy beaches is Robertsport
The beaches in Robertsport are known for their amazing waves, perfect for all levels of surfers.
Silver Beach
Harper Beach
On the Southeast end of the Liberian coast lies Harper City, the capital of Maryland County, home to some of Liberia's most beautiful and untouched beaches. These stunning stretches of coastline go on for miles, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the region's natural beauty.
The beach at Libassa Ecolodge is ideal for soaking up the sun and relaxing under a thatch umbrella to the sound of waves crashing. However, Libassa Ecolodge offers more than just a beach; the resort's amenities will enhance your relaxation or add some adventure. Visitors can pay a day entry fee for day use or rent a bungalow and stay for the night. The entrance fee allows you to use the beach, the five pools, the lazy river, the restaurant and bars, and the lagoon where you can stand up paddleboard, kayak, or snorkel.
Foods wise:
Liberia is known to having some of the best Jollof; Senegal-Gambia is 1. Best dishes beside Jollof include Liberian Chicken Stew, Fufu and Soup, Toborgee,
Rice Bread, Collard Greens (gotta eat your veggies) etc
The most common food eaten is rice. I eaten a lot of rice with every dish. Ate so many plates, I felt like a pregnant whale
Women wise, Liberia has a lot of baddies. Saw a lot of attractive women when I hit the clubs. Body shapes from petite, slim thick, real thick. You'll see some indescribable body shapes that'll make you go
I'm deadass!
Safety wise, it's pretty much safe. Just stay away from certain parts of Monrovia to avoid getting robbed. I almost got stabbed by Red Light District cause I had accessories with me. When it comes to traveling overseas,
dress like a local, not like a tourist.
