I became intrested in Guyanese culture/food and found out from this video that the Guyanese people immigrated/migrated twice, first they immigrated from India to Guyana and then from Guyana to New York.
The Guyanese people in the video said they were embarrassed of their food when they were younger in school, but later became to love the food.
See, this language is how nikkas that don’t know the history of the Black Diaspora perpetuate the erasure of Black people.
The same erasure nikkas blame white ppl of doing.
Afro-Guyanese ppl & Indo-Guyanese ppl, are NOT the same.
Guyana is built of the backs of Afro-Guyanese ppl.
Afro-Guyanese were in Guyana since the 1660s.
CENTURIES prior to Indo-Guyanese, bc of slavery.

Just like African Americans have been in America longer than other Indo-ethnic groups that came AFTER slavery.
Anyway, fast forward..
It’s close to the end of slavery and the British then decide
to bring in CONTRACT-WORKERS from India since 1838,
That’s 200+ years AFTER Afro-Guyanese ppl,
to take over the plantations they’ve been on since the 1660s.
Those descendants of Indian contract workers are Indo-Guyanese ppl
Indo-Guyanese - Wikipedia
That’s a 200+ year gap of Afro-Guyanese people being in Guyana, BEFORE Indo-Guyanese people.
How are Indo-Guyanese “the Guyanese ppl”?!?! SMH
This phenomenon happened all over the Caribbean,
I’ll explain
Guyana = 29% Black vs 39% Indian.
Suriname is a majority Black country, 37% Black vs 27% Indian.
Afro-Surinamese people were in Suriname CENTURIES prior, because of slavery.
Indo-Surinamese people only came as contract workers as late as 1873 when slavery ended.
Afro-Surinamese - Wikipedia
Trinidad = 34% Black vs 35% Indian.
Again, Trinidad & Tobago’s Afro-T&T population was the CENTURIES prior to the Indo population because of slavery.

We gotta do better as a people and learn more about the Black Diaspora.
