Gullah/Geechee NFL Film Nominated for 4 Emmys!

May 15, 2024

Emmy Winning Director & Producer Osahon Tongo joined forces with film consultant and producer, Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation to truly make movie magic! NFL 360 premiered “The Chief Who Walked the Sea” as a Black History Month feature film. This film salute to legendary Gullah/Geechee football great and activist, the late Jim Brown of St. Simons Island in the Gullah/Geechee Nation starred an all Gullah/Geechee cast. “The Chief Who Walked the Sea” is now a 4x Emmy nominated film!

Queen Quet was honored to have the opportunity to pay tribute to Jim Brown and to make NFL fans aware of the warrior energy that lived within him and still radiates from Igbo Landing through the rest of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. As Jim Brown did throughout his career, native Gullah/Geechees continue to push through all that comes against them. Part of that continued staying power of this cultural heritage community comes from their ancestors that they pay homage to.

We salute the cast and crew of “The Chief Who Walked the Sea.” The NFL truly made a touchdown with this one! Now, the Emmys need to make it home to the land of the Gullah/Geechee. Tenki Tenki fa de 4 nominations ya!

My wife's dad is from St. Simon Island. Damn shame you have to pay to get there now. :to:
