Growing afro/dreads. How do you deal with the ugly stage?

My hair is 1.5.2 inches long and looks like a complete mess. Officially entered the ugly stage; where people ask him whether I’m growing a fro/dreads or that I might need a haircut. Will be stuck in this phase until my hair hits 6 inches.

How do I deal with this?

I remember when I grew my hair for my braids......that mid stage is tough but if you really want the fro/dreads just do it....It don't last that long anyway!
