Gregory C Coleman was the drummer for a group called The Winstons in the 1960s. They had a 7" single called 'Color Him Father'. The B-Side was called 'Amen Brother' and contained a drum break now known as the Amen Break.

That drum break has since been sampled and used in THOUSANDS of songs. Everything from NWA - Straight Outta Compton, the Futurama theme song, countless jungle and D&B tunes, even some rock shyt.

There's a few good documentaries on YouTube but this may be the best place to start, even though it contains a few inaccuracies:

The Winstons never made it big, and what's more I don't believe they ever received royalties from the drum break being sampled. Whole genres have been built around Gregory C Coleman's drum break. Despite stints playing drums for Curtis Mayfield and Otis Redding, Coleman sadly died penniless and homeless in 2006.

R.I.P. GC, and thank you for your contributions to black music and pop culture in general
:salute:
