He was the Green Lantern BEFORE Hal...:ld:

The character was originally introduced in 1940, eventually fathering children (the heroes Jade and Obsidian) and becoming an elder statesman to DC’s newer heroes, including the modern day Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the “Green Lantern” film last year.

As part of the “New 52,” a company-wide reintroduction of DC’s heroes in 52 new series that began last year, Scott is in the prime of his life and gay. “By making Alan Scott young again, one of the few downsides was that we no longer have Obsidian, his gay son,” said James Robinson, the writer of “Earth 2,” who described Green Lantern as his favorite Golden Age character. “Immediately, I thought, why don’t we make Alan Scott gay? We’ll have a team leader who is dynamic, will risk his life for the people, and who happens to be gay.”

I know it's not Hal Jordan, but I wonder if Ryan Reynolds would have taken the Green Lantern role if he knew they was gonna have the character associated with this... Most people aren't gonna care if it's Alan Scott, Hal Jordan or whoever, all they're gonna know is Green Lantern is gay. And Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern. This might kill any sequel they were planning, unless they turn him into some playboy like Bruce Wayne or something.
