There are a number of famous casting jobs that we've seen over the years.
Al Pacino as Michael Corleone is a big one.
And I suppose you could say the same thing about any iconic character: Bryan Cranston as Walter White, Heath Ledger as the Joker, and so on.
But those are all famous and fairly obvious.
To me, I think it is better to look at great casting that might be in a secondary or minor role.
And so I'm here to tell you of my favorite casting job ever:
Matt Dillon as Healy in There's Something About Mary.
Think about it. This guy was practically a has-been in 1998. A forgotten Brat Pack kid from the 1980s. And I know -- you're going to say he was in Wild Things but let's be honest. Nobody remembers him in that shyt. It was all Neve Campbell and Denise Richards.
But he was absolutely perfect in this movie. A jerk, a moron, condescending, hilarious. But he basically steals every scene he's in. Could you really imagine anybody else in that role?
No. You can't.
And he came out of nowhere.
Great job.
