Additionally, remember that a large part of the country is the Rocky Mountains. So that “livable” area doesn’t really count for much and is non-ideal.
This country is going to get choked out by the climate change.
On the other side of the world China is going in the complete opposite direction: switching to clean energy, combating desertification, etc.
It’s going to be real interesting by 2040 and we haven’t done shyt while the other country has been building with clean energy (not to mention EV) for the last 20 years.

I lived out there for three years in the mid 10's and I can count on both hands how many times it rained out there.
These farmers are the biggest issue in California. They plant water resource hogs like pistachios and almonds. Contaminate the ground water with the excess nitrates they put into the ground. Then they blame the Democrats for not giving them water. Most of these central valley farmers came here after they created the dust bowl in Oklahoma and have basically created a dust bowl here. And of course the other obvious reason to hate them is they hire nothing but illegals and then use it to support their political views. They are also the biggest reason we have the worst air quality in the nation.
Pom Wonderful is the fukken worst company ever. They never give back to this region either. They can all burn to hell in the LA fires for all I care.
