Crazy you have to pay taxes on something you already "own." Property taxes should be against the law. People will argue property taxes help pay for schools, emergency services and road maintenance but they can find another way to tax to get that. If you're in a state with legal weed there's more than enough tax revenue from that alone that can pay for the things property taxes pay for.

After you retire or are disabled property tax should end. Or at the very least if they are going to enforce it, then charge it to the estate on death like any other debt.
