So, right now I got about a year left, and I am a currently majoring in a STEM degree with a minor in philosophy.

The thing is, if I take about 2 extra classes, I can double major in mathematics or another STEM degree.

Is there any benefit to doing this?

I plan on going straight to an MBA once I'm done.

With no prior experience? I was always advised against that

If you're double majoring in math and philosophy, I'd advise looking in to law school.

Math and philosophy are the two highest scorers on the LSATs. You'd be killin em in law school, breh. :ooh:

Don't waste any time or money on something you don't need.

An internship or a part-time job will do more to effectively build your resume. A MBA isn't worth shyt unless it's from the top schools, and many of those schools won't take someone without work experience.

What's your plan for employment? You've only got a year left? Have you been going to career fairs or talking to the recruiters?

If you go straight to a MBA program, unless you make it into the big I-banks, you're going to just start out as an entry level associate. What's the whole point of that? Think about that for a minute. What is you're plan? What do you want to do?

Do you want to work for someone like Applied Materials? Cisco systems?

I know someone who just finished a PhD in Neurobiology from Stanford. the maximum offer she received was only 60K.... Was it really worth it? don't set yourself up for disappointment.

honestly, Military experience may or may not impress people.

I'm an Engineering major. I'm currently minoring in philosophy but I can easily get a double major in CS, Mathematics or Physics if I take two extra higher level classes in one of those majors.

No, that's not experience in the business world.

The only reason I say that is because employers have mentioned to me that my military resume is attractive. I've had every company I applied for an internship tell me that. I think it makes up for my age (due to military service). But to be fair, those were for specific firms, and not business.

Thanks.

These extra classes won't add to the costs, and even if it did, the government would pay for it.

I have an internship coming up.

Yes, recruiters come to us. Companies line up to interview the students here. I got an internship through other sources. My plan for employment is to ultimately create my own apps/sites, which I already have begun. Seeking investment now while in school, but it's difficult. I think I have a promising lead, but I won't get my hopes up.

I've had every offer to work in private contract security you could think of.

I swear on my child and everything I love that these people were offering 12-15 grand a month.

I spent about 2 days mulling it over but decided I didn't want to live that life anymore.

How come? What would a military job of the engineering variety entail?

Cause man, thats a whole lotta $

Yeah I'm not talking about private security though.

You wouldn't necessarily have to live in the gulf either.
