You know Riley never gave a fukk about draft picks.2 first rounders and nikkas saying the heat won?!
Top 7 protected in 2017 and an unprotected in 2021.
We got Dragic for Cole and a 7th grader
We had the worst starting PG rotation in the league that could barely run a subpar PNR with two beastly big men and people acting like getting Dragic, a cat who is a season away from having a 20 PPG on 50% shooting when he was the main ball handler, is gonna make us worse?
People only looking at names. Dragic gives us everything we was locking offensively. A consistent perimeter scorer who can space the floor for Wade and Bosh. A great passer who can feast in PNR with Bosh or Whiteside.
No more doubling on Bosh with Cole's man when you got 3 amazing cutters on the squad.

Edit: and now that I see the protection/years on the picks I see its not a huge deal. Good move for yall.
It's not about "caring" about first round picks it's how they are measured in time.
I'm sure Riley doesn't care about picks that far out because he will be long gone.
Pretty much everybody relevant to the Heat now will be gone except Dragic and Whiteside

Then you haven't really been paying attention.
Riley has built this team 3 times through free agency and trades. The 90s teams with Zo, Tim, Mash, etc..
He did draft Wade (lottery) and signed UD. Then he brought in Shaq, Glove, Zo, etc..
You know what happened from 2010-2014 and the picks they gave up.
He has always sacrificed picks.

Honestly , tho. as ive said before in this thread and the Heat season thread: I have NEVER seen Dragic play. At least I dont recall seeing him play so when i saw the news i was wondering why the fukk Riley would give up 2 first round picks after he told us he's taking the approach of building for long term moving forward.
However Pat Riley has never been one to value draft picks, period. Since he's been our GM we've gone so many years without draft picks I dont recall watching the draft more than twice since he came to Miami in 1995. The few times we have a draft pick in the first round its not like he' gonna give the mofos any playing time anyway. Riley hates young players, period. Caron Butler and Eddie House might have been the only rookies he ever played here. Remember he didnt coach Wades rookie year.
But one thing i know is Riley has always made moves to put a contender on the floor.
