NFL appeals panel re-issues "bounty-gate" suspensions - WGNO

An NFL panel has decided to re-issue the suspensions that were originally used to punish current and former Saints players in the "bounty-gate" investigation.

According to the ruling, handed down Tuesday afternoon, New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma will sit out for the entire 2012 season, Saints defensive end Will Smith for four games, Cleveland Browns linebacker Scott Fujita for three games, and free-agent defensive end Anthony Hargrove for eight games.

According to NBC Sports, the league will issue an explanation soon. "Asked for confirmation that the same discipline has been meted out, the league said, 'It’s not that simple.' As to specific question as to whether the penalties will be the same, the NFL said, 'Not all.' "

October 9, 2012And @mortreport has it: Vilma suspension the same but will not lose game checks from the time he is on PUP. Scott Fujita reduced from 3 games to 1. Will Smith remains the same. Anthony Hargrove reduced from 8 to 7 games.

Scott Fujita submitted signed declarations from nearly 20 players to the NFL that he did not contribute any money to a bounty fund.

what a fukkin clown....Goodell is gonna be remembered as the Dubya of NFL commishes...honestly, what has he brought to the game that has made it better?? stupid OT rules that even the players themselves didn't know...judge, jury, executioner mentality that's alienated both fans and players...whored the game out to where orgs have players wearing pink....claims to care about personal safety but had inept refs calling games for the first month of the season & tried to instill a 18 games schedule...

NFL reaffirms player suspensions in Saints' bounty case - NFL.com

The NFL Players Association said it would consider its options after looking closely at the punishments.

"For more than six months, the NFL has ignored the facts, abused the process outlined in our collective bargaining agreement and failed to produce evidence that the players intended to injure anyone, ever," the NFLPA wrote in a release. "The only evidence that exists is the League's gross violation of fair due process, transparency and impartiality during this process. Truth and fairness have been the casualties of the league's refusal to admit that it might have made a mistake.

"We will review this decision thoroughly and review all options to protect our players rights with vigilance."
