Credit to @Big Boss for the impetus to create this thread in the midst of all these Floyd Mayweather threads that are poppin up and being rehashed ad nauseam as of late

This coming Saturday 10/18/2014 the StubHub Center in Carson, CA will play host to 2 of the more intriguing fights of this calendar year

"GGG" Gennady Golovkin (WBA Middleweight Champion - 12th title defense) - 30-0-0 27 ko's vs "El Veneno" Marco Antonio Rubio (Interim WBC Middleweight Champion) - 59-6-1 51 ko's

Backstory
With heavy hands packed with KO power contrasted by a friendly demeanor and tenuous grasp of the English language, GGG has captured the attention of many in the boxing world and known as P4P of the best fighters in the world. Coming off a short night in his last fight where he dealt the Australian Daniel Geale his first loss by KO inside of 3 rounds at MSG, GGG is riding a high wave of momentum. He is need however of that one signature fight that will take him to that next level Many fans have been clamoring for him to fight the likes of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather, and Andre Ward. Due to differing factors regarding each of those proposed opponents, those opportunities have not yet come to pass. Not one to sit on his ass and wait, GGG has managed to keep an active fight schedule and stay in fighting shape. That type of dedication will be needed when he steps into the ring against Marco Antonio Rubio. Rubio has been in the ring with many notable fighters in his 14+ year career such as Kassim Ouma, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Jorge Vaca, Frankie Randall, Carlos Baldomir, and Kelly Pavlik. He is no stranger to tough competition. This will be Rubio's 3rd attempt at capturing a world title. He came up short in his spirited efforts against then lineal WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kellly Pavlik and then WBC Middleweight beltholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Rubio hopes 3rd time is the charm and in the process taking yet another zero. He is no stranger to playing the role of spoiler, just like he did against another heavy handed middleweight prospect David Lemieux. Add to the fact that GGG has also never been past 10 rounds in a fight. Could history repeat itself? Stay tuned

"The Filipino Flash" Nonito Donaire (WBA Featherweight Champion (Super) - 1st title defense) - 33-2-0 21 ko's vs Nicholas "Axe Man" Walters (WBA Featherweight Champion (Regular) - 3rd title defense) - 24-0-0 20 ko's

Backstory
Nonito Donaire for many years has been known as a top 5 P4P in all of boxing. The Filipino was enjoying one of the lengthier unbeaten streaks in boxing. Donaire had won titles in 3 divisions and sent notable fighters such as Vic Darchinyan and Fernando Montiel to the bushes with his signature left hook. The sky was the limit it seemed until he met "El Chacal" in a unification showdown. Save for the 10th round with Donaire scored a KD off the break, he was outboxed, dominated, and significantly damaged by Rigo en route a UD loss. Since the fight it looks like confidence of Nonito had been shaky at best. Anotjher win in a rematch against Vic Darchinyan and a title winning TD (title wins in now 4 divisions) over Simpiwe Vetyeka have done little to convince that the Nonito that we all knew was back. He now has possibly his significant challenge in year. The power punching Axe Man had been quietly mowing down challengers en route to capturing his version of the 126 crown back in 2012. In his last fight out he faced a common opponent, Vic Darchinyan, who in a spirited but one sided effort knocked Darchinyan out cold. This can be a potential star making performance should Walters repeat the feat against a man who has never been KD or KO'd in his career. This will be a proving ground type of fight for both fighters that has "can't miss" all over it

I'm more interested in the donaire/walters fight. 50/50 fight in my point of view. I could've went, but i waited too long to get the tickets. I was kinda shocked they sold out so quick.
