Golovkin Still Wants Cotto, Views Canelo as Mega Bout

IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs), who recently added the IBF belt to his collection by stopping David Lemieux in seven rounds on October 17th at the Madison Square Garden, will be in attendance at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas when Miguel Cotto faces Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on Saturday night.

"It's a very interesting fight for everybody, two world champions, it's good for boxing, especially for me because it's the middleweight division," said Golovkin.

On Tuesday it was announced that the WBC would be 'derecognizing' Cotto as their champion for not abiding by their rules and regulations. Alvarez is still eligible to win the title this weekend. When Cotto-Alvarez was consummated, the WBC mandated that the winner would have to face Golovkin next.

"I don't know," said Golovkin, who was still digesting the situation.

"Cotto just lose belt, it's interesting the next step. We just spoke the the WBC. I want his belt."

Many believe that Cotto will never step into the ring with Golovkin, who says - "I hope he wants a fight with me because it's more money, good deal for us, more popularity. He says just one more year (in boxing) so it's perfect time."

As for 'Canelo' stepping up to the plate to face him in 2016:

"I think he's a warrior, he'd ready," stated Golovkin, who added - "Maybe Golden Boy's not ready for big fight. I think fight with me and 'Canelo' is the next big fight in the world."

Because Cotto is the A-side, plus Canelo makes his money off of PPV splits anyways. Remember, because of his contract, he did the same with Floyd, Angulo, and Lara....took a lower guarantee and gets a much higher percentage off the PPV splits (he gets a 80/20 split of PPV profits from GBP).

Example: He only got a guaranteed base salary of 1.25 million vs Angulo (compared to Angulo's 750k)...but gets to take 80% of the PPV profits from GBP

Say, hypothetically Cotto vs Canelo sells 600k at $70 a pop...that's $42 million gross. Canelo gets 80% of that $14 milly due to his contract with Golden Boy and walks away with his base salary + an additional $11.2 million on top of that
