"We made a good offer to Richard Schaefer (CEO of Golden Boy Promotions), - says Oleg Herman (Manager of GGG). - But the next day he said that they want to arrange an open trade between the channels, the winner of which will receive the rights to broadcast the fight Golovkin - Quillin."

This option is not acceptable to the team of the Kazakh boxer who fights exclusively on HBO.
"The proposed option was not acceptable to us, - says Oleg Herman. - Because the team is not going to turn away from our partners on HBO, on whose support Gennady can always count. Additionally, Peter Quillin has much lower popularity in the U.S. compared to Gennady, and can not be even compared. If Quillin didn't have the title and didn't mention loudly and constantly "Golovkin" and "Martinez" names in the press, we would most likely have heard little about him. Not to mention that Quillin fights on the undercard and has not headlined a single main fight night."

I'd like to see him and Ward fight, but how about getting Ward a fight...period?

Real talk, GGG and his team already KNOWS Quillin is a Showtime exclusive fighter and GBP is showing they are willing to make this fight anyway....buy having both networks bid on the fight and who will show it.

GGG's camp dont want the fight to go up to a "bid", because Showtime most likely would outbid HBO, and the fight would be held on Showtime.

Funny thing is, the more the network pays for the fight, the more Quillin and GGG would make.

Being that GGG's camp is AGAINST this happening (the network trade "bid"), it makes me question even more his "willingness" to fight anything more than a jobber:manny:

I don't personally think GGG is worried about someone like Quillin more than maybe someone like Ward who even Abel Sanchez has hinted "We're not really ready for that fight". I wouldn't be surprised if GGG's team did try to lay down some type of Gauntlet to make it seem like they want all the big fights knowing the Showtime / HBO situation. They did everything they could to make the Chavez fight, and while Martin Murray and Martinez aren't available, he's sorta up sh*t's creek.

As far as both Networks, are they able to bid on actual fights or is that just the promoters? I know Golden Boy outbid Top Rank for the Russell Jr vs Lemanchenko fight, but it was strictly GB vs TR bidding. If it did come down to that, I have no doubt HBO would win that bid hands down. But again, as far as I know it's the promoters who go for the purse bids, correct me if I'm wrong though.

I swear if the WBA really force this nobody as the mandatory instead of Geale :stopitslime:

And nobody can convince me anything other than Quillin's entire existence is to be fed to Canelo so he can move up in weight and have a "big" title win at 160.

For this fight, the article you posted said it will be a network bid.....similar to how ESPN wound up with Stiverne vs Arreola, because neither HBO or Showtime wanted the fight and did not bid on it

GBP is showing the willingness to make the fight on their end for Quillin by going to a network bid. GGG's team is talking all this garbage:

"The proposed option was not acceptable to us, - says Oleg Herman. - Because the team is not going to turn away from our partners on HBO, on whose support Gennady can always count.

So basically, they want Quillin, who's a Showtime exclusive fighter like GGG is an HBO exclusive fighter, to turn HIS back on Showtime while GGG just gets to fight on his "home" network:rudy:

That's not gonna happen:manny:

The network bid is the best thing, because if HBO outbids Showtime, Quillin and GGG make more money and it will take out the distraction of "whose network are we fighting on?"
