Golden Dawn MP and spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris stirred controversy in Parliament on Thursday after suggesting he is a Holocaust denier.

During a debate about the parliamentary committee which is probing the political handling of the so-called Lagarde list of possible tax cheats, Kasidiaris said that Sabby Mionis, a Greek-born businessman who lives in Tel Aviv, refuses to appear before the panel protesting over the fact that it includes Holocaust deniers.

“Members of the committee are, of course, Holocaust deniers,” Kasidiaris, a member of the panel, said.

His comment triggered protests from other parliament members, particularly Vasilis Economou of the Democratic Left.

An anti-racism bill that was recently proposed by New Democracy makes Holocaust denial a crime.

Golden Dawn, which currently polls at third place with about 13 percent of the vote, this week submitted its own draft bill to fight “racism against Greeks.”

Kasidiaris has become one of the faces of Golden Dawn since the neo-Nazi party secured 7 percent and ultimately 18 parliamentary seats – in last year's general elections, in May and June.

“History has not yet given its final verdict on Hitler,” Kasidiaris said during a televised interview last year.

Forgive my ignorance but how do you deny the holocaust? There are many pictures, eye witness accounts, writings, and some film that document the events that occurred. Do they just say all that evidence is fabricated or do they just say all those people were war criminals or something?

Well in the mind of an Holocaust denier, the whole stuff is a gigantic conspiracy for the Jews to rule the world. So I guess they think every documents were made by actors.

Heard of this for the first time on VICE. I was amazed by the cognitive dissonance the members of this party display. Their salute, their flag, their extreme xenophobia ... all very similar to Nazi Germany, but Golden Dawn doesn't see it at all. I feel sorry for them, honestly.

Greece was invaded by the Nazis until the only free part was the island of Crete, but the Nazis had a lot of Greek sympathizers even as Greece was being occupied.

Jews were not the only group that suffered, many other indigenous groups also were massacred but only one group likes to take all the credit, they successfully used the victim card to steal land and committ genocide on the Palestinian people who still suffer to this day. The holocaust is used to milk the system and to question what really happen is focking with the pockets of the jews, so its a no-no in many countries.

Yeah, they are tripping.... but I don't agree with this law.. how can this be a law?? Also, this falls right into the trap of the deniers.

The notion of freedom of speech isn't the same worldwide, some are more limited than others.
A good majority of european countries has law(s) against Holocaust public denial even if some are broader being simply laws against Genocides public denial.
You can denythe Holocaust at home if you want because you're free to do so but you can't on any media.
