GMOGMedia.tv: For people who are not familiar with who you are and what you do can you give them insight on your journey up until this point?
My name is Damien McSwine and I am a native of Detroit, Michigan. I played professional basketball for the last 13 years in Europe, Asia, South America, Central America and the Carribean. During that time I traveled to over 40 countries and had the opportunity to study several patterns of foreign cultures that either lead to life longevity or cut their lives short. I came to one conclusion. Achieving optimal health has nothing to do with money. There were people in 3rd world countries that had no money that were living on average to be in excess of 90 years of age but yet Americans had all of the resources but could not make it past an average age of 74 years.
GMOGMedia.tv: What inspired you to make a documentary about health in the Afrikan Community?
What inspired me is that African Americans make up only 12 to 13% of the population yet they are leaders in every major category when it comes to diseases. And if they are not leaders they are a close 2nd place. What I noticed was that a so called African descendant in south america had a different set of circumstances that those of the United States. Brazilians, Dominicans, Jamaicans, Bahamians, England blacks and many others all have a different dynamic than US blacks which made our situation very unique but also very stressful. Black Americans are bombarded with issues that contribute to their health decline and the worst part about it is that they are unware and subconsciously helping their demise.
GMOGMedia.tv: What are some of the topics that you will address in your documentary Urban Kryptonite?
Some of the topics in mis-education, the meat-dairy and sugar curse, soul food, the maladroit dependence on doctors and prescription medicines, using drugs and alcohol as coping mechanisms, the loss of spiritualty and overpraising of religion and many more things.
GMOGMedia.tv: Who are some of the health experts that you will have featured in the documentary?
The health scholars include: Myself, D'Jehuty Maát-ra, Karen Cooper, Minister Enqi Sangreal, Dr. Llaila Afrika, Doctah B. Sirius, Abundance Child, Dr. Ali Muhammad and Dr. Aris Latham. I also reached out to Dr. Sebi and Queen Afua who were unavailable as well as dikk Gregory.
GMOGMedia.tv: Since this is an independent project, is this fully funded or are you still seeking donations?
I initially started on kickstarter with a similar format that was used by the brother Tariq Nasheed. However, I did not have the amount of publicity necessary to reach my goal although people did support, it simply wasn't enough. I was able to secure the financial backing for the film so we will begin filming sometime late next month or early November.
GMOGMedia.tv: What are some of the basic things we need to do to improve our diet?
At the grassroots and basic level we need to get sunlight each day to help our melanin and feed the pineal gland, drink half of our body weight in ounces (if you weigh 200 pds, drink 100 ounces daily), consume 50% of our foods in in a raw state (fruits and veggies), avoid fried foods because they damage the lining of the arteries and causes free radical damage which leads to heart problems and cancer. Lastly I would say that we need to read more or develop the mind because the brain is the body's control center. Your body will do what it says.
GMOGMedia.tv: What is your opinion on Independent Agriculture and distribution within the Afrikan Community?
I think it is a great concept if people can be educated on what to do. In Detroit we have the URBAN FARMING COMMUNITY that does great things and address some of the concepts to which you speak.
GMOGMedia.tv: Most kids in the public school system don’t have a choice in consuming public school lunches. What are some methods to counter or improve on public school nutrition?
Lecturing to the kids would help but then again the schools will be the ones administering the food. It's a situation to where the parents will have to be thoroughly edified and through that process we can send the kids to school with quality food. Depending on the age of the kid, we might be able to do something with them but let's face, children don't have jobs or the funds to purchase these foods. There is always the option of going straight to the head honcho of the public school system who is responsible for making nutritional decisions for the well being of the schools. Finances are also an issue.
GMOGMedia.tv: What goals would you like to accomplish in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years i would like to have published my next two books as well as written and directed 5 more movies in the Urban Kryptonite Documentary series. The idea is to have it move as a brand series as you see with FAST AND FURIOUS or SCARY MOVIE. Part1,2,3,4 etc. My focus is to get the message out to 10,000,000 million people in the next 5 years that being healthy is not an arduous task. It just takes consistency.
