HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A 33-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after being accused of threatening his wife with a knife after she refused to perform certain sex acts, police say.
According to his arrest report, Steve Allen Rice, is a member of the U.S. Navy.
Homestead police said officers responded to a domestic battery call that was made Wednesday at a school in Homestead.
They said they spoke to Rice’s wife, who told them that she and her husband had a verbal argument Tuesday night due to her no longer wanting to perform certain sexual acts that Rice wanted her to do.
According to the arrest report, after Rice’s wife denied his request, he then went to the kitchen to grab a knife and threatened to kill her.
Police said the victim was holding two small children in her hands when Rice held the knife over his head and told her she was going to “get it” and that he was going to kill her and then himself.
The arrest report states that shortly after Rice’s daughter came downstairs, he hid the knife and chased her upstairs.
Police spoke to the daughter who said that Rice pinned her against the wall after chasing her upstairs and began to degrade her, according to the report.
Authorities said that the daughter also told them that when Rice gets angry, he has hit her siblings over the head with a closed fist on multiple occasions.
She also confessed that she had seen Rice hit her brother so hard across the face that it left a mark, according to the report.
The daughter told police that after Rice chased her upstairs, he came back down and then grabbed a metal bar stool and held it over his head threatening to bash her mother’s brains out with it because she “wouldn’t shut up.”
Authorities said Rice’s daughter told police when she went back downstairs that she saw her mother holding up her hands and saying, “please don`t kill me.”
Rice’s wife also told authorities that he threatened to kill her over the last few weeks and months on multiple occasions and, at one time, put a pillow over her face to try and suffocate her.
After being called to his daughter’s school Wednesday, Rice was arrested and transported to the Homestead Police Department for processing.
He is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse with no great bodily harm and false imprisonment.
Local 10 News has reached out to the US Navy to confirm if Rice is an active member but have not yet heard back.
